Feline Research

Starting in July 2007, Dr. Lyons at the University of California - Davis campus, will be analyzing cheek swab samples of Turkish Van cats as part of the Feline Genome Project. This is an exciting study that aims to determine the genetic distinctions of 19 different cat breeds. Samples will also be analyzed for unique genetic markers and population diversity. The results of this study will be important baseline for the breed in the future.

There is no charge for individual cat owners. The benefit to you is having your cat DNA typed for no cost. However, research costs money - so please consider donating to support this project. Vantastix will match the first $200 donated!

How to Donate money to the Feline Genome Project:

Vantastix Cat Club supports the Feline Genome Project being conducted by Dr. Lyons at the University of California-Davis. Support the Feline Genome Project by providing samples of your Turkish Van for their study. Since research is expensive and there is no charge for submitting the samples for DNA analysis, please consider a financial donation. Vantastix will also be providing a donation on behalf of the club, but more funds are truly needed. All funds donated will be accounted for and sent to support Turkish Van Research.
